Summertime... by peggysirk

Summertime...

seems to arriving a few weeks early. After a gorgeously mild Spring, the heat and humidity are on the rise. I don't know how folks survived summer in the South before the advent of air conditioning. This was my grandfather's fan that he kept in his office at work back in the 50's...it still works perfectly.
Hello Peggy. Greetings from Edmonton Canada. I came across this picture on the browse page. What a great piece of your family history to have. Very cool that it still works

You see things were made to last... Very 'Madmen' this - hope you're floating around in your pearls and a bouffant hairdo?

@judithg Life was supposedly simpler back then, but dressing for women must have taken hours with the hairstyles, the cumbersome undergarments, the matching shoes and handbags, hats, jewelry, etc. :)

I will try not to think of little fingers getting in there!! What a different era!

Must admit I've still got one of these; it's never failed me. Nice to hear you all complaining about the heat at last! As for your reply to @judithg it might have taken a bit longer than it does now but it was a great deal more fun.

@bpaquette It's remarkable that any of us growing up in the 50's, 60's or even 70's made it out of childhood in one piece! :)

@girlie It was definitely a more glamorous era as far as fashion and etiquette was concerned!

@peggysirk @girlie I remember my mother having umpteen 'under layers'! I could do with something 'pull you in and push you out' myself but only in winter!!

@judithg I agree; summer was the worst time for those wretched undergarments. But we wouldn't do without them. Couldn't have any wobble underneath those tight skirts we all wore then!
