December 23 ~ Happy Festivus!

For those unfamiliar with Festivus, it is a secular holiday celebrated on December 23 as an alternative to participating in the pressures and commercialism of Christmas. Festivus became part of popular culture after being featured on an episode of the American TV show 'Seinfeld' in 1997. My favorite part of Festivus is the "Airing of Grievances"...an opportunity to express annoyances and disappointments from the year. :)

The gift basket is from my neighbor, Jeff. His homemade pickled okra is a marvelously 'uncommercialized' gift. My 'grievance' is that when Jeff brought it over yesterday, he ended up staying ALL afternoon...literally...from 12:00 until 4:30. He even stayed for lunch. Really, Jeff? On the Saturday before Christmas? Like I didn't have a zillion things to be doing other than listening to the saga of your sinus infection for hours... :)

I was thinking about listing two more grievances rather than good things for today...but I feel much better after getting just one off my chest. :)

That's awesome Peggy! You are such a patient soul. I had something very similar happen two days ago. We just had to work with it and extend dinner to two extra unexpected guests that stayed a few hours longer than we expected them to. I had an extra martini (cosmopolitan) and went with it. ;) Looking forward to your Christmas pictures with all three of your beautiful girls, and maybe a baby bump? Merry Christmas Dear Friend!

Love the 'Airing of grievances'. I'm afraid it would take up the best part of a day at a family gathering of ours so maybe we'll give it a miss; although it would be rather fun. Love your story and, yes, I think I would have kicked him out quite early on, Festivus or not. The pickles look good, though.
