I spent last night watching the final college football game of the season. While the temperatures were dropping outside, it was warm and cozy inside. Took this shot for this week's "Looking through" theme.
This morning we have set a weather record of 8F (-13C). I read an article yesterday about photographing frozen bubbles. Supposedly soap bubbles freeze into beautiful crystal shells when it's below 10F. After experimenting to the point of near frostbite early this morning, I'm thinking it has to be colder than 10 degrees for that to work. :) If anyone in a colder location wants to give it a try, here's the info: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/06/frozen-bubbles_n_4549643.html
Three good things:
1. A warm home
2. It's warming up to 24F (-4C) today
3. Still have a few more weeks of NFL games
I've seen the thing about frozen bubbles on Pinterest and in various places. I wondered if it was really as easy as they make it look. I'm glad to get your feedback. Blowing bubbles in the freezing cold may just be one of those things I skip...LOL!
Oh Peggy, this photo is exquisite! I love the flares of light bouncing off the glass. So pretty. I didn't think that Chardonnay could look more inviting, but you made it happen! I think it would need to get a few degrees warmer here before I would try the bubble thing, but I must say that I am intrigued. Thank you for sharing!
@petersonsheri I can't imagine getting my face/lips to move enough to blow bubbles in -20F! Of course, you could use the hand waving wand method...if you could move your hands. And then there's the chance of your camera freezing... I hope you guys get a warm up soon!!
@petersonsheri I thought my camera was a little slower than normal when I was outside trying the bubble thing this morning...but then again, it could have been my frozen fingers. :)
Loved reading the frozen bubble debate...would be fun to try but not cold enough here just wet wet wet!
Your crystal does shine & sparkle Peggy.....all those stars of light & a wonderful see through.
