We had a gorgeous old dogwood tree that I just loved. It was old and gnarly and full of character. A few years ago I noticed signs that it was starting to fail and called an arborist to give it a check up. He told me it was the oldest dogwood he'd ever come across and estimated that it was well over 100 years old...most dogwoods live about 60-80 years. Anyway, he trimmed it up, gave it a root boost, and warned that it probably had only a short time left. On Friday morning we woke up to find it lying in the yard, blown over by nothing more than a breeze. Sadly, I called a tree removal company to come cut it up and remove it. I will miss that sweet tree.
Three Good Things:
1. Lazy Sundays
2. A new hair stylist that I really like
3. Beautiful summer weather...cooler and less humid today
Very nice collage to honor the life of this lovely tree. My mom has a dogwood in the backyard right next to the house that has survived for a least 60 years - she worries for it during every storm!
Funny how we get attached to trees......we don't know the dogwood tree here very well. I don't know of any around here at all unless we call them by another name! Pretty flowers too.....double bonus. How kind of it to quietly fall down without doing any damage to anything!
