It was a perfect September day for kayaking on the Catawba River.
Three Good Things:
1. September sunshine
2. I handled a successful solo water rescue of Tom and got him back to the landing to hang out with Doug and Tommy, the kayak rental guys, while I enjoyed a peaceful solitary paddle down the river.
3. Confirming that kayaking isn't Tom's thing before making kayak purchases. ☺
Hope the water was warm! Did he hang onto his kayak while you towed him? I hope I never have to deal with that! Good for you going on after. Ooo I would love to go kayaking with you, wouldn’t it be fun!?!
@bkp Nothing quite that dramatic...although it was close to a capsize. We had only been in the water 5 minutes or so when I looked behind me to see Tom practically lying down in his seriously wobbling boat. His back and legs had cramped up. He was in misery and couldn't sit up straight or paddle. I towed him over to the shoreline, pulled him out of his kayak so that he could work out the kinks. His muscles were too tight to get back in his boat, so he waded the 400-500 yards to the landing while I towed his kayak. Tom Sirk and watercraft do not play well together.
