'lightbulb' moment: thoughts of a thatcher

From the churchyard where I found the photo of this gate:

I saw this cottage with its thatch being renewed And then I remembered that my paternal great grandfather, Joseph, was a thatcher. I could imagine him working in a similar peaceful country environment in Bradfield St Clare in his native Suffolk in the 1880s.

Great story and lightbulb idea :)

@darrenboyj

Thanks, Darren. I have to say it was a lightbulb idea to do this - not in mind when I took the photo.

Really nice POV. I grew up in a thatched cottage and my Granny & Grandad also lived in a thatched cottage. This brings back memories of those days and also I saw a thatcher last summer rethatching my Granny's bungalow and stopped to have a chat. Nice to have those memories and lovely to see your great grandfather who was a thatcher! What a skill

Lovely capture. My maternal great grandfather was a thatcher!

Ah! Most of the men in my family history were agricultural labourers so to find out about the thatcher was very interesting.

Glad to bring back memories for you.
I've always had a hankering to live in a thatched cottage but, being married to an insurance claims inspector, no chance! Plus I imagine the cottages would be quite dark with the small windows and we live in a house with lots of light.

Lovely English Country scene. It is great that you know so much about your ancestors I tried to trace my family tree and I got stuck very quickly. There is a total lack of information about my paternal grandfather!!

It looks like a very old graveyard. Love how you captured it. The stones and the cottage are so interesting looking.

@purplehaze12

I have been so lucky in that a friend of ours researched my family tree for me back a few generations plus I do have quite a few identifiable photos.
