Lots of bees in the garden yesterday evening. I came in from taking some shots, sat down to look at them on the camera, heard a buzzing noise and realised I had a bee on my shoulder. Strangely I found I wasn't worried that he might sting me but concerned for his welfare. Ray and I dislodged him and put him back in the garden on a plant but he made no attempt to fly off, just crawled around listlessly. Maybe he was already a sick bee to not sting me but it's quite put me off bee shots. (But note I'm still posting the one I got!)
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Great shot Hazel, really clear and colourful. (I know I just agreed to stop going on about the weather but perhaps the poor bee was too cold to do anything!!)
Beautiful clear image, nicely focused & the bee behaved I tried for a bee on the chives in flower this morning --but he was very elusive & busy + had gusts of wind I have one on my camera !!
Stunting details on this excellent capture. So many reasons why a bee don`t fly, cold, tired , wet or to much nectar. Often when you leave them alone they fly after a few minutes.
Awesome and fav for me too!
I know bees are having a tough time of it lately because of how bad the weather has been these last few years. Have been planting bee friendly flowers and shrubs to do my bit for them. As much as i hate hot summers, i realise we need a normality back to our seasons so nature can continue on it's usual path.
I don't worry about bee stings. They aren't after us. I feel so sorry for bees when I see them dopey and slow, wondering if they are on their last legs. I can't bear to see them so. Love how the stamens are sitting just below the bee on the petal. And of course the bee is positioned so perfectly for its feed. Beautiful

Paula, it did cross my mind - but I still felt guilty!
Yes, @denisedaly I noticed it ;)
Yes, and your shot is beautiful!

Thank you! I thought it was a geranium but not sure so thanks for the info too. It grows like a weed in both our back and front gardens.
