a view of Gloucester Cathedral

"Doctor Foster
Went to Gloucester
In a shower of rain
He stepped in a puddle
Right up to his middle
And never went there again"

This little nursery rhyme popped into my mind when we visited Gloucester and I found out that it apparently originates from a visit to Gloucester by King Edward 1 on horseback. He fell off his horse into a muddy puddle and was so humiliated that he vowed never to return to that city.

It's a shame there is a barrier around some pavement works in the foreground of this shot but I liked the outlines of the roofs and tower.

see a stained glass window inside:

@judithg

Me too Judith and I also discovered that it could originally been 'piddle', archaic form of 'puddle' - learn something every day, eh?!!!! (I've always felt you to be on the same wavelength!)
