In 1960, the house was gutted when a cinder from the fire in the library jumped the fireguard and started a blaze. Within 24 hours the owner, Ralph Dutton, set about commissioning the reconstruction and restoration of the house. He himself sourced most of the furniture and pictures and it took 3 years for the restoration to be completed.
When Ralph Dutton died in 1985, the house was bequeathed to the National Trust. This year the Trust celebrates the 50th anniversary of the completion of the restoration with an exhibition in the main hall.
It's a short drive for me through beautiful countryside to Hinton Ampner, one of my favourite places for an outing with a camera: many photo opps - the exterior and interior of the house and the church, the walled garden with flowers and veg in season, and the peaceful rural setting.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
That's a beautiful building Hazel. Isn't it wonderful to visit somewhere where there are lots of photo opps and you have the excitement of going home and downloading them all. That's my favourite bit to be honest!!
Hard to work out which is my favourite bit of creating photos for 365 but the uploading is certainly something I always look forward to and want to do immediately I return home! Thanks for stopping by and comments!
I've learnt so much myself being on 365 as I used to take shots and not bother so much about the information but it has to be right if it's here in b/w under my photo!
