no seats

After a trip to the camera shop, I decided to pay a visit to Winchester Cathedral and was surprised to find no chairs in the nave.

A quick look on the Cathedral website and I found this:

"Each year the chairs are removed from the Nave and visitors get the opportunity to see how this vast Cathedral would have looked in earlier times."

Now Ray is wondering about services during this one month long period and whether folk are expected to stand up.

Fabulous shot it really shows the size of the cathedral without the chairs, but I hope they put them back soon, you wouldn't want to sit on those cold slabs would you. Or maybe it will be standing room only.

Stunning capture..the nave does look so bare doesn't it? But you can see the beauty in the structure. So were people supposed to bring their own chairs for service or just stand? The banners add such a nice touch of color. Great shot and what a great place to visit Hazel.

In Russian churches, there are no chairs at all at all times. Everyone stands, all the time. Even for the overnight services :)
