x = x-siccated = exsiccated = desiccated

Taking liberties with language but these seed pods definitely look dried up. I have no idea what will develop from the seeds in them.

Thank you, as ever, for your interest in my photos, especially for the recent response to my swan's white wings for 'w' and to the handsome Hector under 'u'.
"Taking liberties with language", and then some ;-) Great shot though.

Stunning macro.
February 25th, 2015
It looks like a tree peony but the seed takes 7 years to germinate as it has such a tough coating. Lovely capture and title.
February 25th, 2015
Love this macro those seeds are so big.
February 25th, 2015

@wendyfrost

I found this http://www.southernpeony.com/2013/08/2013-peony-seed-pods-peony-seed.html which does look like it, thank you! It was a shrub/bush about 6 feet tall with several straightish stems and in the Master's garden at the almshouses.

Really super textures.
February 25th, 2015
They look quite intriguing, love all the brown tones.

Pam
They certainly are interesting looking.
February 26th, 2015
What interesting pods! At first I thought they were bats!
February 26th, 2015
@quietpurplehaze I had a peony tree with yellow flowers like large buttercups but it died when I moved it. I should have saved some of the seeds.

@wendyfrost

I shall go back and have a look at tree peony flowering time. I'm about to take out a yearly membership to St Cross where I found these seedpods as I go so often.
February 26th, 2015
@quietpurplehaze Hope you don't miss them as it is a very short flowering time.
February 26th, 2015
@wendyfrost

I'll find out and put a note on the calendar, thanks.

Yes, "x" is a tricky one! But you got round it great!
