Hazel, regarding changing lenses outside , i sometimes do it, but i am so wary of getting dust etc. on the sensor. I try to plan ahead a bit by knowing what i am going to shoot :-). Although when it was the caribbean carnival in the summer, i took my 60d with my sigma zoom on it and my old 450d with my 50mm on , lol.
I do the same - think ahead about what I might shoot. I've learnt a lot more about photography since I bought a camera with interchangeable lenses. (I don't buy anything that isn't light to carry!)
