When I went to visit the almshouses at the weekend, I put the long zoom lens on my camera, thinking that the long end would be good if by a remote chance I should see a kingfisher, and the short end would be OK if I found somebody to approach for my strangers' project.
I saw a man by the river playing with his dog, throwing a ball for him to retrieve. So I went over and after a bit, spoke about the lack of kingfishers. He said he'd not seen one this year. And somehow kingfishers led on to portrait photography and Fred agreed to have his photo taken.
I asked him to stand with his back to the river so that the trees on the opposite bank would be a background and the sun more or less behind me, and took just a couple of shots.
As well as Charlie, his springer spaniel, Fred had his newly acquired metal detector with him. He said that, so far, bottle tops, can ring-pulls, and bits of old iron have been his only finds. He teaches guitar in a school and also has some private pupils. He told me he makes a bad photo so I hope he'll like the one I've emailed him.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Another great portrait. I can see that you are following my tradition and finding blokes with beards, ha ha. Must be something really deep there Hazel.
Excellent light & focus Hazel.....excellent & you always learn something new! You should get a little book & write down all the snippets you learn while doing the portrait challenge!
Just opportunity really Phil - have one more in hand to post then I think I'll have a pause!
Well OK then, Phil - I'll keep going!!!
Babs, funny thing, Ray has now grown a beard!!!!!!!
