Janet is a volunteer helper at the almshouses in the Hundred Men's Hall tea room, which closes for the winter but was open today for New Year's Day.
I received a lovely response to my request for a portrait photo when Janet said she would be 'honoured'.
Janet has lived in Winchester for 31 years and hails originally from Yorkshire. She told me that she still misses the scenery, the moors - and Longley Farm yoghurts. She's not feeling too deprived of the latter right now as she's just been to visit her sister and brought a supply back.
Janet used to work as a civil servant, and has not long been retired from a second career as practice manager for a chiropractor.
She's lived in Winchester for 31 years and moved here because her late husband wanted to move south and to be nearer France.
She asks me to say that she knows she is wearing 'odd' ear rings - and that the custom is always to wear the longer or most dangly ear ring on the right ear.
(I'm very good at losing ear rings so I think I may have to take up this practice.)
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
brilliant haze, your portraits are fresh and vibrant after your little break / sabbatical away from them. Your portrait phojo reignited . Love Janet's hair and dangly earring .
I feel there is a mono in here :)
Janet has a very interesting face & a personal story to match! I love the stories you glean from your subjects Hazel. I bet it was the highlight of her day!
I feel there is a mono in here :)
Do you know, that never occurred to me - you may well be right about the mono.
Thanks so much for your comment and good wishes.
Thank you and for the fav.
