Thanks to my new friend, Nancy, for suggesting I ask Tony for a portrait when he brought us our coffee after a delicious lunch at Café Monde where he is currently working. We'd walked along the Itchen into Winchester on a bright sunny day.
Tony was more than happy for me to take a shot or two so I took three and this was the first and best as I often find when taking portraits for my strangers' project. I asked him to stand just to one side of a small chandelier and there were several mirrors on the background wall.
Tony has worked at Café Monde for the past 18 months and prior to that he helped a friend with gardening. He explained that he likes to change jobs fairly often. He is also a sound engineer and a musician, plays guitar and has just bought himself a loop station.
We felt that this café definitely has a French feel in the décor and general ambiance plus there is a single loo for men and women (very French) with no sign on the door (very French) but a large glass vase of beautiful purple alstromeria on a shelf inside.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Another fine shot in this series, Hazel, and a great commentary in which you've somehow managed to knit together a scene setting, a biography and a very clear word-picture of the loo! A nice job - a complete picture, not just a camera image, although that too is also worth a mention.
Lovely close up. He has gorgeous brown eyes. I always wanted one of our kids to have brown eyes like mine, but they both took after their Dad with blue eyes.
oh yes i remember Nancy, how nice that you have become friends.
Good catchlights in Tony's eyes.
Our fave restaurant has unisex toilets on the upstairs floor. It works quite well , the room is big with a chaise lounge and posh toiletries and sinks and separate cubicles for men and women
After I loaded this shot up I thought they were hazel eyes!!!
Oh Arthur, thank you! btw the loo was at the bottom of the stairs!! (Should have taken my camera in there to shoot those purple alstromeria!)

That sounds quite avant-garde - for England! This is just one toilet, one sink, and the room is tucked under the stairs!
I'm trying not to be envious.....
