I met Carole last weekend at St Cross where I had gone to spend a little time with my friend, Nancy, who manages the tea rooms. Nancy was one of my previous 'strangers' and has become a friend but is just too occupied at the almshouses to socialise much in the summertime.
Carole works there as one of some 30 volunteers in the tea rooms at Hundred Men's Hall. She also covers for other days when necessary.
Speaking with Carole, it was soon evident that she is a very active lady. She recently retired from running her own business as a swimming instructor which leaves her more time for gardening, cycling and dogwalking.
I asked her about her dog: he's a border terrier called Bati. This is a shortened version of his kennel club name which is Batian, also the name of a mountain in Kenya. Carole told me that her dog is indeed batty - no explanation needed for me really, living with a cairn terrier called Jinks.
When Carole is not engaged in her physical pursuits, she spends time with her family: husband, daughters, and their families.
I had a cup of coffee and a piece of sultana cake (obligatory), a walk around the Master's garden with Nancy and was pleased to have captured another portrait. It was not possible, given the background, to do a shot with more background surroundings but the teapots came into their own once more!
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
A lovely portrait of Carole, all your subjects always look relaxed & smily! How wonderful too that you have become friends with Nancy, I have a feeling I might go back & look at Nancy when I have time! Love the name Hundred Men's Haal!
Pat, here's the link to Nancy's portrait http://365project.org/quietpurplehaze/365/2015-10-25 She has never seen it, not even on the camera screen, says she knows who she is without looking at a photo of herself.....
@quietpurplehaze Thank you Hazel, that saved me scrolling back although I thought a job for the long night ahead!! Nancy looks & sounds a very interesting person, much too much to do to look at her photo obviously! Hope you had a lovely time this afternoon.
