I took this portrait photo of Mary last year, the last time Ray and I met her and her husband Mike.
Sadly Mike passed away recently. He had been unwell in latter years. A few days after his death, Mary died suddenly from natural causes.
As with many members of families, Mary and I did not see each other so much as years went on, each having married and moved away.
But our 11-year-old selves had good times on our families' joint summer holidays in Barmouth, North Wales.
Mary was a gifted musician and music teacher. She also had a facility with words and wrote and bravely delivered the eulogy at her mother's (my Auntie Betty's) funeral last May.
Ray and I will be travelling to Cornwall at the end of April for Mary and Mike's joint funeral.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
How sad for you Hazel - I am sorry. She looks a lovely lady and I guess we think she and her husband were not long apart. Keep those happy memories close.
A lovely capture of your cousin Mary sorry to hear of the loss of them both but I think it is very special for them to be together at their funerals and a lovely ending for them both..
Tragic loss of both your lovely cousin Mary & her husband Hazel. I can't get over how like her mum, auntie Betty she looked like, sad that they all died within a year of each other.
Sorry to hear of your cousin and her husband's passing so close to your Aunt. This is a wonderful portrait of Mary to remember her life and your fun together as children!
That's so sad, but not uncommon for the surviving spouse to pass shortly after--especially if they had been married for a very long time. This is a lovely portrait of your cousin. She has a very kind face.
Gorgeous portrait, RIP Mary & Mike. How lucky you were to spend yout holidays in Barmouth, I went there for the 1st time a couple of years ago, was most impressed.
A beautiful photo and such sad news. How devastating for you. Many years ago now my Stepfather died and Mum caught a chill at his funeral, she died five days later of pneumonia.
Babs, that must have been such a difficult time for you and your family. Thank you for your visit and comment.
Such beautiful words and portrait
