Uppark House: a Victorian Christmas

A touch of humanity, in a PoW work camp at a cement factory in Germany, Christmas 1943:

"Christmas evening saw us in the works canteen where there was a piano. The Kommandant was there and he gave a bottle of beer to everyone who did a turn."

'Till We Meet Again - Gunner Bert Martin - 1941-1945'
Lovely repeating image Hazel, and a poignant quote too

I just read those words the other day and was so struck by your father's positive attitude. His hope that his life as a PoW would be short is inspirational- even when he was shuffled from place to place. Nice shot!

@olivetreeann

Thanks, Ann and yes, I was also struck by my dad's conviction that everything would be all right in the end. He did have one or two narrow escapes but was proved right!

If that is a small one, I can only imagine the size of large one! Lovely focus and composition.

Great shot and very thought provoking. I have just finished reading a novel with much about a Herr Kommandant. It makes one feel very humble and grateful.
