After battling with the ticket machine to obtain tickets for the tramway into Nantes, Ray and I felt a bit like this chap: to start the machine does not take banknotes and we had hardly any change; then it systematically rejected each of our credit/cash cards (we tried 4 in total); some friendly Americans offered us change but not enough; finally we spied a separate notice informing us that one ticket suffices for 2 people until 31st August - so hey presto, we had just enough change for that.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Such a lovely slump.......how many times do we feel like doing that! Sounds rather a trial Hazel but not half as bad as if you didn't speak fluent French.
At one point, we thought we'd just go somewhere else - but then remembered you need your tramway ticket which lifts the barrier to get the car out of the parking! (Just a small moment of panic!)
Claire, we felt idiots 'par excellence' the both of us! The machine kept accepting our pin for each card and then refusing the card....................
I had exactly the same problems with train ticket machines in Belgium recently. A very nice Belgian lady who helped me out told me that many european ticket machines won't take British credit cards. Don't know why though. Great shot, by the way!
I saw this on the pp and it made me smile, it is an awesome topiary, and then I read your commentary and I am sorry but I laughed. I am glad you made it in and I love your sense of humor!
I guess in retrospect I can laugh at the experience but I was a tad scared when we thought we might just leave it and go off somewhere else and then realised that the car would be stuck in the car park without our tram ticket to lift the barrier!!!!
You don't see this every day!

Pete, you are very kind to make me feel a little less stupid!

Amanda, thank you. How did you find this shot so far back in my album?!
OK thank you, mystery solved - I was a little surprised this made PP - I think it was the unusual/funny effect!
