Winter bird by radiogirl

Winter bird

I took this bird through the kitchen window because it was so cold outside and was surprised with the detail even through the glass. The other advantage is they don't know your there which afforded me the opportunity to take many of these.
You keep your windows cleaner than me.... :) Nice shot :)

Lovely close up. Is that an American Goldfinch? I saw a couple of those today, too. Some stay but most migrate....for good reason.

@kathiecb No not an American Goldfinch they don't arrive here until June.

@kathiecb I was trying to be evasive for a reason............not quite sure but I think it is a ruby-crowned kinglet!

Lovely little bird Kathy, it seems to be well feathered to combat the freezing weather. It looks a bit like a sparrow but much prettier.

Yes, it appears to be an American Goldfinch to me :) It must be early. We have them all winter here. Beautiful detail - nice capture.

@kathiecb it appears that I guess about the bird was wrong, looks like you were correct and it i appears to be American Goldfinch.
I'm learning something new apparently they brighten up in colour in the spring.

@sailingmusic thank you for identifying this bird, not only is this project teaching me something about photography but also bird identification.
Thank you.

The details are excellent and I like your choice of filling the frame with the bird.

@radiogirl No problem. Only recently did I read that some stay all winter. Their feathers darken to attract what little sun we have. I would suggest the smart ones migrate. LOL
