The Hairy

Aside from the chickadees, the Hairy woodpecker is our most common visitor in our backyard at this time of year.

The birch branches make a wonderful place for Mr. Hairy to perch for his portraits. Interesting, the dual tail feather design. Your pic prompted me to go look the bird up and see that yes, indeed, their tails are doubled. Didn't realize that. Thanks for the ornithology lesson.
