I didn't think I would like a flower photo in black and white, but after reading Gibson's book and converting this photo I took this summer to b&w in LR I was pleasantly surprised.
Gibson's writes that flowers which are white will photograph well against a dark background, and toning brings out the richness of the tonal contrast.
Thank you for your comments and favs on yesterdays photo "Heavenly Light" so glad you liked it.
The lovely daisy becomes art in B&W! I was in an office the other day that was decorated in black and teals with B&W flower art on the wall. It was the first time I was not in a hurry to be called back for my appointment as I was enjoying studying all the various images and how light was used to illuminate the blooms. Yours would've looked great on the walls there too!
I do love this....the contrast is fantastic! Just a side question....I know you are learning a lot through this process....will you continue exploring B&W, or will you be using your exploration in tonal values in your color photography?
@panthora thank you for your kind words of encouragement. I'm enjoying the black-and-white enough to keep me interested in pursuing it and like you say I'm hoping this will be transferred to my colour photography.
Very striking. I like that you're quoting or paraphrasing from the Gibson (which I have not read) so I'm getting the benefit of your reading and the pleasure of your photos. Will put that book on my list.
