I never realized that this melting ice actually had a particular name until I read Kathie's description about candle ice. As chunks break off they really do appear to be candle like, her description can be found at http://365project.org/kathiecb/365/2015-04-17
Its beautiful to watch and interesting to listen to the tinkling sound of separating ice. Thanks Kathie that's what I love about this site we are always learning new things!
Many thanks for taking my photo "A Mystery" to the PP, I really appreciate your support.
This shows such great detail to the ice - and as you say, there's been so much to learn - love the name Candle Ice - and you shot clearly shows how it might be given this name. Bet that sound is neat to hear.
I keep going back to looking at those edges - fascinating.
Thank you so much for the lovely compliment about my shots. Really started my day off well!
I have never heard of candle ice either. It must have a very interesting sound. I will have to watch the Delaware River next year and see if anything like it forms if the winter is cold like it was this year. Nice shot!
Very interesting piece of information, which is probably going into my Trivia basket since we hardly ever see ice around here....well, unless it is in the refrigerator!! I love the shape of these ice blocks. And, I can only imagine the beautiful sound they make!
