While out canoeing this morning staying close to the shoreline I could hear this thunderous sound approaching the canoe. Looking up I realized there were two charging moose heading right for the canoe. Our dilemma was to stay put and take photos or start moving out of the way. Anxiously I took some shots quickly while my husband started to paddle out of their way, this alerted the moose to our presence and the cow and the calf veered off into the woods much to our relief and disappointment. Having just returned from the beauty of the Canadian Rockies, this mornings paddle reminds me why I love living where I do!!
Many thanks for stopping by and commenting, I really appreciate it.
Great capture and story, that is a dilemma for sure. Not sure how I'd react, I've never seen a moose in the wild but would love to at the proper distance! It's on my bucket list.
Kathy, your life is so full of excitement and you capture the moments well. I'd be hightailing it out of there for sure, probably would have dropped the camera in the water.
Good thing there were two of you - one to shoot and one to paddle (though I'm sure you grabbed your paddle as soon as you got your shot - which is fantastic). Love that you were able to get the reflections and water splashes - some actions must be instinct because you sure didn't have time to think out this shot! What an experience!
Whoa! At least they weren't purposely trying to charge you. Quick thinking on both your parts! You avoided a collision and got a good shot at the same time.
WOW..close call. I have heard that more folks die from moose attacks then almost any other animal attack. I guess if you are in the way they just keep going! Great shot!
