Here in Chicago, I was photographing a ferris wheel down on Navy Pier today as were were passing by in stop-and-go traffic! I believe I recall correctly that the ferris wheel was invented/built for the Chicago World's Fair in the 1800's. And if you want a fabulously good book to read, check out "Devil in the White City", an historical novel by Erik Larsen, that takes place during the time of the Fair!
@Weezilou Yep, it was invented for the fair here by Mr. Ferris -- one of many things that emerged from that event (including electric system we use, cracker jacks, and more). The book is a great read.
@Weezilou@taffy thanks for stopping by and for recommending the book "Devil in the White City", I already got it and I'm looking forward to reading it. I'm always looking for a good read, so cool to find good book titles on a photography site, this is such a great place.
@radiogirl If you've not read anything yet by Erik LArsen, start with this one and keep getting his books. They've all been wonderful reads, and I love the intertwined (and at the end, notated) historical facts. You'll be amazed! And as a Canadian, the one about Marconi setting up the cable to reach to Nova Scotia should be of special interest!
