The Last Egret Standing

I've watched this Great Egret standing at water's edge each afternoon this past week. Most of the other egrets have found a new home at another pond close by, leaving this one on its own. In many shots including this one, the egret has some white "stuff" on its beak- not sure what it is but I'm concerned that the the bird isn't eating well or isn't healthy. Now I'm worried that I'm spending time worrying about a bird? This pandemic is definitely messing with my head.
Gorgeous angle of light.

I love this photo - the blue so brilliant, the water so gently rippling, the composition. And I so know what you mean about all the worry! My latest discovery is that I’m happier when I focus my thoughts on things I can actually do something about rather than.... everything else! Good luck to you, Elizabeth!

Nive shot. I like the contrast of the bird and the blue water (reflection)

Beautiful shot, it looks as if some preening fluff is on it's beak.

I hope all is well with the egret. The good news is that you aren’t suffering with lack of empathy

Great capture. Looks like it's been doing a lot of work on the feathers.

Other than the fuzz, it looks healthy. Bright eye, clean plumage. I just tried several searches and the only thing I came up with was that there are a couple of people out there nicknamed "Fuzzy Bill" :-) If you remain concerned, you might try contacting your state's wildlife / natural resources department. If it's something communicable they will definitely want to know.
