Just Before Sunset

I took this shot from the South Rim Trail about 15 minutes before the sun dipped behind the clouds. The colors heated up on the far buttes creating a myriad of hues. In the middle of the photo you can see the curving line of green trees on the banks of the Colorado River as it winds its way through the mile-deep canyon. Later in the evening, there was a massive cloudburst with thunder and lightning.
Love this and miss the GC a great deal. Check out Shoshone Point, about a 1 mile hike and so few other people. You have to google the name since it isn't on the normal tourist maps given out.

@jgpittenger The storm was at 2 am and I was staying about a mile from the rim so I wasn’t about to hike out in the dark and pouring rain.
