Day 8
Eyes are open and both chicks seem to be doing well. Third egg was still in nest yesterday (Tuesday, day 7) but may or may not still be in the nest today.
They are becoming regular little birds now. The other egg is not viable. I am surprised it hasn't been taken out of the nest. You must have caught them after a feed...it's nap time now.

Thanks for your comments and for following me on this adventure. Both chicks looking great this morning, though the shot shows them enough like yesterday that I won't try publishing a "day 9". Maybe tomorrow.
Is that where the expression - a bad egg - came about? Kicked out of the nest indeed! However, Mum has to feed these two to the best of her ability! Great to see them in the nest!

Maggie, Not sure of the origin, but, we do have the "largest producer of brown eggs east of the Mississippi" in town. I haven't had the pleasure , but they tell me that there is NOTHING WORSE than the smell that comes from a broken black (or bad) egg!
Thanks for stopping in and commenting. At this point I'm sure that Lynn is right about the third egg.
Thanks, Sheri!

You're welcome! My pleasure.
