I had hoped to catch one of these guys earlier in the transformation. Still, there are some clear differences between the half hour old chrysallis on the left and the more mature one on the right.
@sabanford
Shirley, We only have about 4 milkweed plants but many active catapillars. These are 3 of 7 hanging on a screen "roof" to a terrarium, an 8th is hanging from the back of a lawn chair and I'm guessing that there are at least as many, maybe twice as many, hiding in the green foliage of our garden.
@tara11 Tara, Glad you enjoyed this. I'm hoping to get some good shots of emerging butterflies, but darn these guys work fast! Twice now I've checked on catapillars only to come back less than half an hour later and find a green chrysallis!
@rob257 for sure! I left the house for 45 minutes with no sign of action going on and came home to a fully hatched butterfly with soft, but extended, wings!

Wish me luck!
Thanks for taking the time to view and comment. Hopefully I'll have some good follow-ups for you!
