Bullfinch by rosiekind

Bullfinch

I have never seen a bullfinch in my garden before so this was a first for me and I thought that by the time I had rushed upstairs to get my camera, he would be gone. I was lucky he was still there and this was taken through my kitchen window which is pretty dirty at the moment due to all the rain so it's not a terribly good shot but it is SOOC and was the best of the lot. I just cropped a bit off the bottom as he was trying to hide in my forget me nots. I must show this to my friend Ernie who will be pleased to see that we have had this visitor to our garden. i must google and find out what they like to eat so that hopefully I can buy whatever he wants to get him back again! He is such a pretty bird and not something we see around these parts
They are such beautiful birds, I have only seen one once!

If you have weeds that are seeding, then that's what they love. They carry a beak full of seeds back to the youngsters. We are lucky enough to get them on a regular basis, but I find them difficult to get close to for a picture, so any snap is worth going for!

glad you have them too Rosie! they like sunflower seeds (shell on or off!) and are regular visitors here!

@piedfly There's obviously more weeds in my forgot me nots than I realised - lol

@ninan Nina you have some amazing birds in your neck of the woods so I'm quite pleased to have bullfinches as well. You have posted pics of woodpeckers and we have had them here in our garden but I have never been able to capture them

Lovely capture, I am rather envious, we do not see them here!

@hudd Thanks - I was so excited to see him in my garden and hope he comes back again. I think it must be due to the foul weather we are having that he decided to stop by for something to eat

Beautiful capture. Such beautiful birds. Saw one on a fence from the car today - thought of camera straight away!!

@mejbronant They are so lovely - did you get a pic?
June 4th, 2012
@rosiekind No time to even reach for the camera. I hadn't seen or heard about bull finches for posibly years and this week my mother and sister in law have seen one in their gardens and I saw one today and you did!

Great catch! I've only ever seen one once in Scotland years ago - it's on our 'would love to see' list!

What a pretty color. I'll bet you were excited to capture this.

How strange, we saw one of these in our garden for the first time yesterday. (I live in Bucks).

@mejbronant That's amazing. Perhaps they are increasing in numbers again - that would be great but I suspect it's because of the unseasonably cold weather and they are hunting for food to feed their young!

@juanita @vernabeth @gphelps5 They are beautiful birds and I hope he comes back.

Don't you just love it when you see a bird for the first time?
June 7th, 2012
@nanalisarocks Yes it's great - I just wish I could have got some better shots but something is better than nothing when it is an unusual bird in your garden. it's like making sure that it is not the "one that got away". Lol
