The Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College

The Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich, is known as Britain's Sistine Chapel. It took Sir James Thornhill nineteen years to complete, and the hall was finished in 1726. Intended as a grand dining room for the Navy's pensioners, the Painted Hall was used as a ceremonial space, and Lord Nelson lay in state after his body was returned in 1806.
