This is the spiral staircase leading to the wine cellar where we are making some wine with friends (Shiraz and Pinotage)! We spent most of this afternoon racking the wine. This comprises of siphoning out the wine, cleaning the barrel and then siphoning the wine back into the barrel. This is done to aid in the satbilisation of the wine and allows clarification. Wine that's allowed to age on the lees often develops "off-tastes".
We have five barrels and it took four of us nearly 5 hours to get it all done! I certainly hope the wine turns out to be worth all the effort!

Get Pushed Challenge: I have been doing this challenge on and off...
Beautiful picture and a very interesting caption. Here in the north of Germany wine making is not an option but nevertheless the city has a very tiny "wineyard" right at the harbour - not sure it is enough to make five barrels :-).
