Tulbagh is steeped in history. This church was originally built in 1795. The town was hit by an earthquake on 29 September 1969 at exactly 22:05. The earthquake, measuring 6, 5 on the Richter scale, had left this lovely little Boland village in ruins, 11 people had lost their lives. Many had miraculously escaped death. The beautiful old NG Church (not this one!), the school, the stately old Town Hall and many other buildings had to be demolished. People lived in tents, caravans and pre-fabricated houses for a very long time. This church was hardly damaged although buildings surrounding it were in ruins!

Get Pushed Challenge: I have been doing this challenge on and off...
What was your push Sally? I hear about these kinds of things every once in a while. For the faithful it is a sign. I like the blues and whites together.
@aspada Amy my push - 'how about you look for something large and human made - and shoot wide... so an architecture shot of some sort, or a vehicle'
Definitely not something I would normally do!
@peterdegraaff Kerk is Afrikaans for church. So many of these old buildings were erected and named by Afrikaaners and hence their Afrikaans names have stuck. The same goes for so many of the farm names and even some of the town names!
Beautiful shot- the white church against the blue sky is perfect. An interesting story on how it survived the quake too. Who can explain these things? They are intriguing.
