I attended the funeral today of a brave firefighting chopper pilot. There was a fly by where the chopper peeled away whilst the spotter plane and fixed wing waterbomber flew over the church.
Not the greatest photo but a very poignant moment for all attending the celebration of Darrell's life. May he fly forever.
I'm from Tulbagh, Western Cape, South Africa. Tulbagh is a small farming community.
Get Pushed Challenge: I have been doing this challenge on and off...
"Great Pictures" are made of telling and poignant moments... Without knowing more than what I see here and your brief tribute, I'm very touched and saddened for him and those who knew and loved him. You chose your picture well...the rest can wait.
I don't now the story behind your photo but clearly a poignant tribute. Most of us go to work with the expectation that we return some 8 or 9 ours later, safe and sound. There are some very brave people, for whom this is not the norm.
This is poignant and a lovely tribute. I have always respected fire fighters, but watching them put out the fire in our house, I saw first hand how scary their work is, even in a relatively routine situation.
@onewing Babs most of the fires are caused due to negligence. When conditions are very dry and windy (as it has been over the last month or so) something as simple as throwing a cigarette butt out can result in a fire.
I met Darrell and his wife not long after they moved to Tulbagh.
