Captured in oil

I have been working on this picture of Pixie for a while. I am using oil pastels and will hopefully finish it at my next art class.

As soon as this began to scroll into sight when I saw it on my feed earlier today, I knew it was your work! It's just that sort of connection "to knowing you better" that makes it such fun to finally meet! You've got a wonderful talent and it's awesome that this is a part of your 100 happy days! And as Gena said, the eyes are lovely. AND, I recall from art classes myself that when you don't have the eyes exactly right, it can all fall apart. But not this one! It's just perfect!

@taffy Thanks Taffy, this is done using oil pastels, which are a bit like crayons. Some of the finer details are done using coloured pencil or graphite. It's not very big, around A4 size. It is always a challenge to capture the spirit of the animal so that there's no mistaking who it is.

@eyesmile thanks Gena. The eyes are usually the most difficult, I always leave them till last!

@Weezilou aah Louise, I had to include it as both Pixie and creating artworks give me such joy. As I commented to Gena, I leave the eyes till last.
Isn't it so nice that over time we can recognise one anothers pictures as soon as we see them in our feed! I hope you have (are) recovered from your fall.

Did your "Photo Painting" of Logan take any more time than this? I see Logan as completely keeping with your artistic style!
October 20th, 2015
@Weezilou No Louise, this picture of Pixie probably took around 25 hours whereas the one of Logan was probably around 7/8 hours. Maybe I should try the photo painting using a dog as the base photo. Mmmm, some food for thought!
