Sylvia du Toit invited me to take part in the F-word challenge. Any photo of something hanging from a chain or rope. Here is my entry.
At the beginning of this summer I made this ‘sort of’ feeder myself out of odd pieces of wood and aluminium foil (used for offset printing). I hung it to a branch of my lemon tree. Up till this day not a single bird came over to feed. Is it that ugly that even the birds shun it? The bird you see there is one I got from another of my pictures. I put him there so he could tease me.
What did I do wrong? Any hints?
Joke: A man who was much devoted to his mother saw a well-trained Myna bird at a pet shop that had a vocabulary of hundreds of words. He bought the bird and sent it to his mother who lived thousands of miles away. A few days later, he phoned her and asked, “Mom, how did you like the bird?”. “ It was delicious, “she said. “.Mom! “he exclaimed, “How could you! That bird could speak seven languages!” “ So why didn`t he say so.”
I'm not sure why the birds haven't been using your feeder.
Birds take a while to get used to new things, but it seems like your feeder has been there a while. Maybe they don't like the food? (My girls go mad for sunflower seeds, so maybe give them a try, if you haven't already?)
It might be that they feel threatened there, so see if there's anywhere in the garden they like to hang out and move it.
Where is the foil on it? If it's shiny they might not like the reflections.
A great shot of the nice lemon tree and the nice bird feeder you`ve made. Great processing to get the bird inside.
Some hints? The food.: They love bird seeds. peanuts , and we can buy fat bowls with seeds in it. ( easily to made it yourself.) The feeder has to be placed in an area so there is easy escape possible and not to close to houses a.s.o. And then , being patient.
