The Dockyard in the Grand Harbour looked nice in the misty morning of some weeks ago. I have been wanting to post this shot for quite some time.
The Dockyard was a mainstay of Malta’s economy up to some years after WWII. It was started by the Knights for its galleons/galleys and served the British Mediterranean fleet when warships filled Malta’s harbours. When the British were downsizing operations in the Mediterranean it was leased to Bailey’s and later the Maltese Government took over responsibilities. However with the ever depleting requests for works it was losing millions of Liri as for political reasons subsequent governments refused to decrease the number of men employed. Some 8/10 years ago the party in government took the plunge, offered early retirement to the dockyard employees and in the end privatised the place which now works with a much smaller workforce.
Thank you so much for looking and for all the lovely comments and the fav’s on yesterday’s picture.
Love misty/foggy days and how things look so different when it's like this. This looks like another world made of just mechanical buildings invading the normal world!! Great scenery and composition! FAV!
(I`ve n`t been our for four days by the rain and the cold. )
Great moody atmosphere the mist creates, lovely capture of the harbour Fav.
