Anotherpicture from Wied iż-Żurrieq. Two shots of Wied iż-Żurrieq Tower taken from different angles.
Also known as Sciuta Tower , or Sciutu Tower , or Wied iż-Żurrieq Tower , this is one of the watchtowers from those still standing which surrounded the island of Malta. It was completed in 1638 as the fifth of the Lascaris towers. The tower was restored by Din l-Art Ħelwa.
Din l-Art Ħelwa is a non-governmental and non-profit, voluntary organisation founded in 1968 to safeguard Malta's cultural heritage and natural environment.
One day I will make a collection of all the still standing watch towers which formed an early-warning system around the Island during the Knights of St John and Malta period. Some of them I have already.
