Lasting lilies by sarah19

Lasting lilies

So glad the flowers my sister sent for my birthday are lasting so well two weeks on.
Haven't been out much today and haven't taken any particular photos ....spent several hours deleting old ones/duplicate ones from my old laptop to see if it will make any difference to the rate it operates at.
What do you do with the thousands of photos that collect when you use digital cameras, phones etc? Maybe there was something positive about having prints in earlier years!!!
I find it amusing that the 'save' icon is a floppy disc which young people have never seen.
There was a funny story about a child who spotted one on his Dad's desk and said 'oh that's clever....you've used the 3D printer to make a 'save icon'.....
or something like that!!!
Three good things
1. Sunshine and blue skies even when snowflakes were falling.
2. Photos deleted and a bit more organised.
3. Ironing pile is almost done!
Great story! Technology has moved so fast. When I was a child, a computer filled a room and was operated by a man in a white coat called a scientist!
Lovely flowers. They have lasted so well.

They are quite beautiful! Funny you should mention the old photos, as I have a similar issue. I use an iMac, and store current ones (about 3 year's worth) on there. Previous ones I've removed to a portable hard disc, because of computer space. However, yesterday it took my computer over 4 hours to open up my file (from the hard disc) of 'pre-2015 photos'. However, it did eventually work. Like you, though, I've realised that I need to go through that file and delete. Things you couldn't delete in 19 oatcake now seem superfluous to requirements. I am going to make that my February challenge to go through and dump the dross. The other thing I noticed on looking back is how the quality of image has improved throughout the years, but also that my skills as a photographer have improved (a bit) over the past 20+ years! Fun to look through photos, but oh, so, time consuming!!!!

@jamibann Another trick on iMac is to separate your images by making new Photos Libraries per year or even shorter if need be. Do you do that? Then none of them are too big to handle. I had that trouble when all mine were in one place too, so I broke them up. I have extra Photos Libraries for old photos, scans, 365 pictures etc. I also use a Seagate hard drive I plug in and back images up onto. My Dad also loads his on to CDs or DVDs for storage as an extra back up. It is interesting to see how things change over time, isn't it? I'd love to go back to places like Australia where I lived before and only used film then. Didn't go digital till the end of 2007!

I just seem to use Google Photos & they go back to 2009. Seems to work well enough for my simple requirements. Jack keeps an eye on them & I tend to go through them & delete views that I can’t remember but alway keep the ones with people on them. It did say how many I had but forgotten...must check but it’s a lot!
Lilies are such good value!

@happypat I think that's probably a good plan Pat.

Thank you for your lovely comments. It's so interesting to read about how you deal with them....and I'm not alone!!!
My recently bought laptop has no place for CD/DVD and I have a lot of treasure from my Literacy and Numeracy secondment saved on them! 🙄

@sarah19 I have that problem on my iMac! So I bought a separate CD/DVD player you can plug in to one of the USB sockets and do it that way. It works very well!
