No photo today so doing some time travel forward to Sunday! Next camera club theme is Texture so I have been thinking about textures already. There are wonderful textures everywhere - it is just managing to find the time to compose something interesting in the right light!
@anniesue You are so right - that is why I am conscious that this is a subject that really does need to be worked. I can find loads of textures, but composing them into something attractive is the real challenge
@narayani@beckyk365 Thanks Narayani & Becky. I really do like the contrasting colours, which is why I tried to keep some of the ocean behind in the photo as well, but yet there is something not quite right that I haven't yet put my finger on
what about standing back and getting both the sea and the rust in focus (or any other way of increasing DOF) [then cropping down] and then you are (might be!) telling the story that the sea causes the rust? Drip a bit of water on the rust for added emphasis - and if you could get a round 3-d droplet you've got a smooth/rough contrast ... good thing is, you've left yourself time to have more tries :)
here is a pic posted recently with a degree of narrative to it IMO http://365project.org/inthecloud5/365/2016-02-20 - this lovely little ivy will eventually smother and kill the birch tree - i didn't think of it at the time, but possibly that subconscious recognition adds to the effect???
@anniesue Wow thank for that, Annie-Sue. Brilliant ideas there for me to try out. And thanks for the link to the ivy in the tree .... I see where you are going with the story telling and contrasting textures
@anniesue Just like the sea is beautiful, but it can also be destructive. So as I can't get a whole of anything in (like this shows a whole ivy leaf) I will need to tell my story with a combination of increased DOF as you suggest, contrasting with the water droplet, and also title it Shipwreck instead of Rust, so that plants the subconscious seed. Everyone can see that it is rust anyway so I don't need to tell them that in the title!
