Canon South Africa offered a Fashion Photography Workshop in Cape Town today. Although fashion is not at all my niche, I decided to book to attend as I felt I can always learn something new, and besides I might find I like fashion after all. But I realised I could never do this except as learning exercise. I simply don't have it in me to try and get in front of the crowds of other togs with their big intimidating lenses and air of confidence. I'm much happier alone, talking quietly to the flowers ...
@narayani Ha. I was definitely very much behind the scenes! The crowds at the catwalk were very intimidating for me, so this was shot from a little spot in the far corner. You should have seen what it was like in the middle of the catwalk
@beckyk365 . It was definitely a great experience so I don't regret a minute of if. We had one good presentation about preparation, planning, and interacting with the models etc., and one excellent presentation about light. Although the one about light pertained to glamour and magazine photography, it is something I can extrapolate to other areas of photography as well. After all, light and shadow is light and shadow no matter what your subject is.
@cottiac LOL. Are you as bad as I am. I'm trying to "get over myself" and sometimes surprise myself by managing to ask perfect strangers with interesting faces if I can take a photo!
@seacreature Yes very bad... tried on Saturday to snap some beautiful houses and had a not very nice experience of being told to clear off, despite being respectful - this stuff sets me back a bit...shouldn't be so sensitive.
@cottiac That is not a pleasant experience for sure. I totally understand how that sets you back a bit. I had something similar at the club when one of the members told me publicly I couldn't take photos at the club. And then a year later same person asked why I wasn't taking photos of an event
