We decided to hang five with pulling up the carpets and laying floor tiles. The budget doesn't stretch to everything all at once, so first we are going to reduce the amount of yard area that requires watering, by paving a small area outside our back door. The lawn dies every winter because the property was badly planned and it gets no sun at all in this area through winter. It takes me the whole of summer to grow the grass again - but of course this summer there's been no water so it is just a dust bowl, with dust blowing into the pool, house and cottage. Work is due to start next week, so we now have all the materials delivered and waiting.
Sounds like a lot of work but worth it. We don't have enough topsoil in our backyard - we have rock about an inch down, and living on a hillside means the rain just takes it right off - so we've turned the yard to a park setting with lots of gravel and then natural plants around the trees.
