@s4sayer It was folly. My heart was in a different space than my head when I agreed to take 2 rescues (unseen). My life was complete and rounded with my family and canine family but my daughter told me about the dogs in the rescue centre that nobody wanted, and hubby persuaded me that he would help with any extra work. I should've known better. My life turned upside down. Predictably I am saddled with all the responsibility. There were times when I spent days crying because I knew I couldn't give up on them once I had taken Max and Charlie - other people had given up on them before and I wouldn't do that to them. But I felt like a prisoner in my home because every time I left for even a short while they would howl so the neighbours complained. I was desperate trying to cope with them and their psychological hangups and voiding in the house, and had a few consultations with a dog behaviourist to help me learn how best to deal with all the issues. Now, a few years down the line they have turned into delightful, well mannered dogs, although I still walk them on leashes as they have little road sense and may get run over as they dash around in gay abandon. Still a lot of extra work with the extra grooming time, bathing time, cooking food for them, and walking tethered to two extra dogs all the time, but at least I have done my little bit...
