Lockdown Day 15 by seacreature

Lockdown Day 15

Well I had thought that this time next week we would be free to continue our lives as normal, but it is not to be. Last night our president announced a 2 week extension on the lockdown period so now suddenly we are not even half way to completion.

Decided it would all be a lot easier if I had some treats to look forward to, so I cooked up some sago with lots of cinnamon and mixed spice, and then ladelled it into pretty glasses for portion control as well as to make me feel like I am having a treat. Could do with a blob of cream on the top, both for the appearance and also just because it would be nicer, but this is lockdown so I can't get ingredients, so mint from my garden will have to suffice as decoration.
What a great idea, it looks fabulous too. Stay safe 😊

I think it's far too soon to end lockdown - but then ours is less severe than yours. Great making - even though I don't like sago - and very nicely staged and photoed.

It looks good. Can’t you go out to buy food? Our isolation measures are less extreme than yours atm, but they’re talking 6 months or more...

@ludwigsdiana Thanks Diana. And you stay safe too. Our lockdown is quite severe - but then our stats are looking very good compared to many other countries. I just wonder what will happen to the numbers when lockdown ends. It has to end sometime!

@anniesue Sago is probably one of those things you either like or don't like. At boarding school it was scorned and referred to as frogs eggs by many scholars. I imagine it might be a texture thing that turns people off, because it doesn't really have any flavour itself - the flavour is nothing more than the spices and custards you make it up with

@s4sayer Thanks very much, Margo. Part of the problem with being on my own is that it is not always easy to cook small enough quantities for just one, so I am noticing my portions are getting bigger than they should because there is so much left over in the fridge. That's why I decided I have to start making sure I put some controls in place - and make it look more like I'm cooking for someone else as well like in "the old days" before Don died.
@pdulis Thanks Peter, it was yum. I had a glass last night after dinner

@narayani Thank you. Yes we are allowed out to do essential shopping. Not sure if we are allowed to walk to the store - one person said they walked there and back without incident, but she did say that a friend had warned her the police had stopped her and advised if she was seen out walking again it would be jail for 7 days. However, I do have a car to go to the shops for essential foods and all should be fine providing I can show my receipts, but I am thinking twice about jumping in the car and heading for the supermarket unless it is really necessary. In our little village the police are very actively monitoring movement and have roadblocked the 3 roads leading out of town so we are not allowed to the mall in the nearest large town. I believe there is corona virus there, but none here yet, so they are trying to stop any of us being exposed and bringing it back here.
