Max and Charlie just chilling while I snapped a shot. They do like to watch the river when we go down there - never know if we might see a seal. Took them walking quite late today as I waited until it was loadshedding so I could do other chores at home. Found it pretty busy down there - lots of people getting out to the river during loadshedding, it seems.
@anniesue yes it is - although to be honest I usually have loads to keep me occupied even when the power is off, but as one of life's necessities is walking outdoors every day, it seems the sensible time to go now that it is cold enough to not have to go early in the mornings.
@narayani Yes businesses are very badly affected. The supermarkets and shopping malls have installed generators to keep the lights on, but of course this has to add to the basic cost of groceries as someone has to pay for those generators to run. Many small businesses face closure. For example the small laundry business I use for ironing the linen for the holiday flat. She is a very small business with herself and a couple of employees standing there running washing machines and doing ironing. Washing machines, tumble driers and irons all draw huge amounts of power so she would need an industrial size generator to be able to carry on running and her business does not have enough turnover to actually afford to purchase a generator like this, nor buy the diesel to run it. In terms of South African law she is still expected to pay her staff even when they can't work so she might have to close.
