Those of you patient enough to follow me, will know that my U13 cricket team were in the Leicestershire Youth League Semi Finals this morning. My youngest son Ben plays for the team.
We won the game!!!
After batting badly and being bowled out for 62, we restricted our opposition to 60 for 9 off 20 overs, to win the game by 2 runs. As coach, I made the decision to change our normal approach when we bowled, and the plan worked, so I confess to feeling a huge amount of relief!
We are now in the final next sunday.
Then this afternoon, my eldest son Sam played for our adult 3rd team and took the match winning wicket that should see the team promoted.
Today is one of the proudest days of my life, and is certainly the crowning achievement of my coaching career.
This shot is of the match ball from the U13 game, Ben's Kegworth Town cap, and a snippet of the cricket scorebook from the game.
A bottle of champagne has been opened this evening at the O'Neill residence.
I don't understand a word from your cricket, bowled, runs ... but I know that a good coach can win a game. Congrat to this successful day. Have a good time with your sons. And I cross my fingers for your final.
