Today's word is Carnation. Now I love flowers, but I am really not a fan of carnations. Remind me of too many family weddings in the 1970s where my uncles tried to make me drink Double Diamond and eat vol-au-vents!!
So, off I walked up to the village at about 2pm to buy some Carnation evaporated milk to do a pop art pic. Turns out it isn't very popular anymore, so our Co-Op doesn't stock it. Never mind, I saw an old pal who has MS through the window of the coffee shop and popped in and had an enjoyable half an hour chatting to him. He doesn't get out much so it was good to see him.
Then, on my way home I spotted a little bit of residual flooding on the meadow, and bingo, today's shot is saturday's word. Watch this space for Carnation Pop Art!!
@jwlynn64 Thanks John. It isn't SOOC, I used the orton technique, see link in previous comment. It accentuates the colours and then you add a Gaussian blur at the end to soften the shot.
Lol ..... love the commentary!
I gave serious consideration to photographing the traffic and calling it "car .... nation"!! only reason I didn't was that for a change the roads were fairly clear.
I like the processing on this ...... gorgeous reflections too. :)
Oh, this is lovely, Sean. . .so you're just bending the rules a bit! I think I could pass on the Carnation milk anyway. This is truly stunning and because of the EXTRA color, this one is my fav.
Beautiful photo and even more beautiful story, I prefer the flowers to the milk though. However a tin of carnation milk does stir up memories of my wonderful grandparents so that's always good :)
My first thought was 'beautiful' then 'I wonder how he did this'...... but have read above comments, so I'm in the know now! Not sure I'd be able to do this in Photoshop, but Ribbet have an Orton preset, so may give that a whirl! Well done on the PP, quite right too!
Thank you all for such great comments, and for the favs. I am delighted with the way this has been received because it is so close to my house! it is great to be on the PP so early in the year :)
But seriously Sean. I went out this evening on the (false) assumption that it was going to be a nice sunset and took some trees and floods shots myself but haven't found a way to process them that I am happy with. Might give this Orton effect lark a try later
A great shot and a fav. I too will try using Orton effect in the coming days. Also a cricket coach and share your dislike of Double Diamond and Vol-au-vents (to many dodgy teas?) lol.
Lovely, I'm not a fan of carnations either..blerch. I do have carnation milk though, it's one of the products I sell, can't wait to see your pop art version.
Great picture today though, beautiful reflections and colour :-)
