Anyone who has followed my project for a while will know that Sam is in a band and loves guitars, though he plays the drums!
With a lot of money coming his way at Christmas and his birthday a few days later, he decided to order himself a new guitar. After some great advice from a good friend of ours (Thanks Robin) he plumped for a Paul Reed Smith.
It arrived today and we had one very excited 16 year old!!
Sam has endured a week of mock GCSE exams with 10 in 4 days, so this was deserved bit of R+R for him when he got home.
Great low key Sean, what a beautiful guitar, I bet Sam is chuffed to bits! I went straight to your Exif info, am going to have a stab at low key (yet again) later!
@filsie65 You are sweet! I am incredibly unmotivated at the moment Phil, and these are attempts to turn it round, so your comment is very well received.
Beautiful capture of an amazingly beautiful guitar Sean. Tell your son he made a great choice. Paul Reed Smiths are designed so wonderfully, and play almost like a fine wine. Congrats. Brilliant color and lighting. You really brought out the guitar in all its beauty
@losthorizon Thanks Beau, it is a beautiful thing. I am to guitar playing what Mozart was to fluid mechanics, but it felt lovely to hold. Sam treated us to Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Mumford and Sons, Youmeatsix, The Clash and The Arctic Monkeys and he is such a talent! I fear that teh bank of mum and dad may be called upon when he wants a Les Paul!! Better do well in his exams!!
As all the others have said Sean, the lighting is fantastic, well done!
( @losthorizon Beau...can you see Sean after Sam's in bed tonight? He'll be standing on the kitchen table, axe slung low, right arm windmilling, miming to something by Bon Jovi or Aerosmith!! hahaha!! )
@seanoneill Just got home from the school runs - the car was silent (apart from the radio) both times.. reminded me of the staff room and the thought that we are all weary and January comes at a bad time.... Hang on in there and enjoy playing :)
@bluefirebucket Haha, not quite my music taste Mick. It is a broad church but other than the ubiquitous Walk this way neither are up my strasse!! Now if you'd said The Clash or The Pistols or The Jam, or The Specials or The Stranglers.....Funny how all my fave bands start with a The!
@seanoneill I think we all do mate .. the news that we can look forward to sleet this weekend is enough to remind me that sensible animals hibernate or migrate in the winter.. ah well, lets think of the photo opportunities it will offer us! Have a good weekend - look forward to a glass of that special cognac :)
One excited young man I imagine......how very thrilling for him, love your description of your musical prowess!! Just love your lighting here, come on Jackie we can do it!!! I think the non motivation stems from the weather I so agree with you..bleugh!!!
@fannyb Thanks Fanny, glad I'm not the only one!! Low Key is ever so easy, come on I challenge the 2 of you. Just get a nice bright light shining from one side across the front of the subject and turn the main light off! Tripod may be good too and a dark or white background. SImples! Oh yes, your main comment! Sam is like a kid in a sweetshop!
Love guitars - this looks great. My youngest son plays guitar and bass whilst my eldest son plays drums. I've tried to convince them to let me join in but to no avail
@jantan Oh me too Jan, saw "him" with Jonny Marr on guitar in Bradford in 1989 I think it was. How could I forget to name check The The!! Me and the kids listen to his first 3 albums in the car on a very regular basis! Sam has done OK he thinks, but I hope he has been reasonably chastened by the experience and knuckles down in the spring!! Best of luck to your lad.
Gorgeous lighting. Instruments are photogenic anyway, with nice curves and colors, but this sidelighting makes this one special. Nice highlights on the strings.
Nicely lit. I used to work with a chap who was once Jeff Beck's guitar tech, and made guitars from time to time to. He used to say that PRS got the best timber.
great light in this - what fun for him - I remember getting my first bass just before my degree exams...it probably wasn't the best timed item I've ever bought - spent far too much time playing and not enough completing my portfolio!!

I have quite similar music tastes to you, lots of 'The's' but I also like The The.
