Premier League football grounds generally don't let you take DSLRs in. I can take my camera to international cricket and rugby matches, horse racing, motor racing, the olympics....but football grounds, oh no, you would infringe our image rights and disturb people around you with a DSLR, but a cameraphone or P+S, that's ok.
So, in an attempt to get permission to take my camera, I rang Norwich City several times on friday to ask if I could take mine. No-one answered their main switchboard the first 4 or 5 times I rang, an dthen finally I got to leave a message for the person who would say yes or no. They never bothered to ring me back.
Luckily these chaps were allowed to take their cameras in.
400mm standard I think. I probably know half these guys! Shame about the attitudes of the Premiership grounds. Having worked on football for the last few years it's a shame about their whole attitude. Norwich is generally a good ground. The lower leagues are even better. On the cricket or golf, or motor racing as you say it's much different. Shame really. Great pic!
@stevecameras Cheers Steve, I'd have th esame problem at St mary's. I got a serious talking too at Sheffield Wednesday when we were in the championship a few years ago. They said I was spoiling it for others, when I was sat on the front row of a stand that holds 3 or 4000 with about 500 Saints fans for company. So I tend to phone and ask, but couldn't run the risk of getting to the ground and having to hand my camera over for safe keeping!! I'd love to have a go at what these guys do, but yesterday they looked wretched!!
We can often get a serious talking to can't we over taking pictures...people get so nervous around cameras!!!! Should have rung Delia!!! Good atmospheric shot Sean!
A great question -- and a great shot! I have a funny photo of photographers that I took a couple of summers ago when I was seated directly behind a celebrity at an outdoor opera and all the giant lenses were focused on him -- so I stood up to take THEIR photos, and ended up in the newspaper, standing behind the seated celebrity and with my camera to my face!
Fabulous shot Sean, they all look pretty cold, great mood, never sure why you can't use any sort of camera when the entire world seems to have a camera on their phone...
Ludicrous and outdated attitude if I may say so! What difference does it make really apart from maybe the noise of the shutter (and sure there is a lot of other noise going on anyway!)
I've had the same problem at a rodeo here in the states. They claimed they had sold all the rights to one photographer. No cameras of any kind were allowed in. Wanta see one of my photos from that day? LOL.
Nice capture. My daughter had her DSLR taken away at a concert at her university when she approached someone for permission to use it. Security pulled her out of the concert and took the camera and locked it away before letting her go back in. Never mind that the rest of the student body was using their iphones.
When i see len's like this...i wake up and realize that i am not a Professional Photographer...But i still love it! More then anything!! I snuk my camera into a Taylor Swift Concert and almost got kicked out twice but i got some really great shots of her flying in the air! It was worth the risk ...Anyway i really didnt sneek it i told them i had it but just could not walk all the way back to the car to put it up, so they let me in with it!! :) I didnt even know they had these rules , i had not been to a concert indoors for years! :)
