Today we took another boat trip on Chiemsee, from Gstaadt to Fraueninsel.
This is a smaller island than Herreninsel, and can be walked round in about 30 minutes. It has a monastery, and here is a picture of the main church tower.
I love Bavaria: the Ludwig stories - he was a manic depressive and nature lover; the beer - especially the Hofbrauhaus which knows nothing about the responsible service of alcohol; and, the Opera - I even got lost on the way home but all roads lead to the Hofbrauhaus!
@peterdegraaff You are right Peter. I also have a deep affection for Bavaria. It is hard to get away from the stories of Ludwig, and the beer is without compare. My favouirite is Tegernseer Helles, but the Hofbrauhaus is quintessential with its oompah bands, lederhosen and dirndl clad clientele and incredible food. It breaks my heart that I can buy a bottle of beer in Germany for less than a Euro, but it is £3-00 in the UK!!
